Speech

  • Articulation: is having difficulties making sounds. Sounds can be substituted, left off, added or changed. These errors may make it hard for people to understand you. For example: “wed” for “red,”, “dut,” for “duck”, “g een nake” for “green snake”
  • Phonological processes: is difficulties making the same pattern of sounds correctly. For example: “pi”, for “pig”, or “key” for “tea”.
  • Stuttering: is when a person gets “stuck” on a sound or word when speaking. For example: “li-li-li-like you”, or “lllllike you”.
  • Apraxia: is when there are difficulties moving the mouth to say sounds correctly and at times trouble speaking follows.

If your child or someone you know is experiencing difficulties in any of the areas above, speech therapy may be needed to improve their ability to communicate.
